President Daniels provides comments to US Senate Budget Committee
March 11, 2015
Purdue President Mitch Daniels provided written comments this week to the United States Senate Budget Committee, stating "… Friends of the research enterprise should be out front in demanding bold action to reform entitlement spending and again liberate resources for the investments in new knowledge that, without public dollars, are unlikely to come any other way."
Daniels, who was invited to testify in person, was unable to make the trip this week to Washington, D.C., but instead shared comments he made originally at the National Academy of Engineers, outlining the importance of federal investment in research. The letter can be found here.
Purdue received $320 million in sponsored-program research funding in fiscal 2013, including $212 million from the federal government.
Daniels’ testimony will be placed in the official Senate record. The hearing will be webcast at 10:30 a.m. today (March 11) at www.budget.senate.gov/republican/public/index.cfm/hearing-schedule?ID=c6f980b2-87cc-4ec9-9576-285437e43914.
