Human Resources to offer training series on becoming stronger job candidate

January 26, 2015

Human Resources Talent Acquisition will present a four-part training series for current staff members interested in strengthening their candidacy for career opportunities at the University.

Participants will move progressively through the four sessions, which are designed to build upon one another. Those who sign up should plan to participate in all four sessions. The sessions, all in the Hall for Discovery and Learning Research, Room 221, are:

Create Your Path
Feb. 11 (W). 10-11:15 a.m.

You work at Purdue, so you already have a great start on your path to a strong career. Your next plan of action should be to make sure that your future Purdue path keeps you focused on doing something that you enjoy and excel at in order to make your career goals a reality. Attend this session to learn the basics of the hiring process at Purdue, to open up your mind to some self-discovery and maybe even to explore a range of possibilities you may not have considered to make your Purdue path navigational.

Resume Builder
Feb. 18 (W). 10-11:15 a.m.

What will get your resume and cover letter noticed? At this session, you will learn how to build a strong resume and compose a cover letter that will highlight your work-related knowledge and experience. In addition to discussing tips and trends, we will also bust some well-established but untrue resume myths.

The Interview
Feb. 25 (W). 10-11:15 a.m.

How do I prepare for the interview? This session will provide tips that will help you walk into an interview more prepared and more confident, resulting in a more positive experience.

Workshop
March 4 (W). 10-11:45 a.m. (note extended time)

Participants will meet individually with Talent Acquisition professionals to have their resumes reviewed and will participate in a mock interview. Attendees will be provided with constructive feedback on their resume and interviewing skills.

Participants in the series have said the following about their experience: "This was a very good training. It enabled me to update my resume, and there were some very good suggestions on obtaining a new position." "I loved the one-on-one time and the personal review of my resume. I would recommend any employee to attend this workshop." "I was able to see how my resume did not express my experience and limited my chances of advancing in my career at Purdue."

Participation is limited to 20. To sign up for the four-part series, go to https://www.eventreg.purdue.edu/training/CourseListing.aspx?master_id=4268&course_area=HR&course_number=145&course_subtitle=00.
