Hill presents commemorative address for Martin Luther King Jr. celebration

Mark Lamont Hill, a journalist, author, activist and television personality, presented the Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Commemorative Address on Thursday (Jan. 15) in Stewart Center's Loeb Playhouse. The address is part of activities at Purdue this month celebrating the life and legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.
Hill is a host on Black Entertainment News and HuffPostLive, as well as a political contributor to CNN. He also is distinguished professor of African-American Studies at Morehouse College. The author of three books, he was named one of America's 100 most influential black leaders by Ebony Magazine in 2011.
Hill's talk was preceded by candlelight vigil and march from Purdue's Black Cultural Center to Loeb Playhouse, hosted by Alpha Phi Alpha fraternity.

In addition to Hill's commemorative talk, the Purdue's 2015 Dreamer Award was presented to Willie Reed, dean of the College of Veterinary Medicine and professor of veterinary anatomic pathology, on Thursday evening. The award is presented annually to an individual or organization in the Purdue community whose contributions embody King's vision of service to others and furthers the university's commitment to diversity and inclusion. Kauline Davis, director of diversity initiatives for the College of Veterinary Medicine, accepted the award on Reed's behalf.
