APSAC, CSSAC discuss colleague interaction, representation at joint meeting

March 16, 2015

Meeting jointly Tuesday (March 10), APSAC and CSSAC members discussed their recent experiences and interactions with colleagues regarding Purdue's employee leaves policies.

The committees broke into six groups during the meeting and discussed three broad topics related to the issue. They were the members' individual experiences since announcements related to leaves took place in February; interactions with colleagues during that time; and ideas and strategies that can help the committees better represent their colleagues when employee feedback on key initiatives is needed.

The groups discussed each topic for several minutes. After the discussions, a representative from each group gave a report that stimulated further conversation among all committee members. Trent Klingerman, interim vice president for human resources, attended the meeting, listened to the groups' experiences and concerns, and engaged in a broad range of discussion.

On March 9, Purdue announced that its current leaves program will remain in place for the 2015-16 fiscal year, which runs through June 30, 2016. More information about the announcement is available in this archived Purdue Today article.

During the joint APSAC-CSSAC meeting, all representatives were encouraged to share details of the group discussions with colleagues in their areas, said Andrea Thomas, Administrative and Professional Staff Advisory Committee chair, and Casey Spencer, Clerical and Service Staff Advisory Committee vice chair. In subsequent meetings, the two committees will continue to pursue points of interest that arose during the joint session.

Also during the meeting, Thomas announced that Joy May, APSAC representative and operations supervisor in the Bursar's Office, will serve as interim vice chair until April's APSAC meeting. She replaces Christopher Munt, who is leaving his staff position at Purdue.

At its regular meeting in April, APSAC will elect a 2015-16 vice chair. May then will become chair.
