Purdue University Dance Marathon looks to raise $50,000 on first Day of Miracles
October 27, 2014
Faculty, staff and students are invited to take part in Purdue University Dance Marathon's first-ever Day of Miracles on Wednesday (Oct. 29).
The Day of Miracles is a daylong event, in which PUDM student organizers and dancers plan to raise $50,000 toward the total money raised for PUDM 2014 on Nov. 22-23. All proceeds benefit Riley Hospital for Children in Indianapolis.
During the Day of Miracles, PUDM volunteers will be collecting spare change in classrooms, playing music during passing periods and holding a campus-wide miracle minute at 5:23 p.m. to collect as many donations as possible for the duration of one song. Moreover, PUDM executive board members and other student organization leaders will be on Memorial Mall participating in "pie-a-leader," letting students buy a plate of whipped cream to throw in the face of an executive.
In addition to the on-campus activities, PUDM student organizers are encouraging faculty, staff and businesses to pledge their support with an online donation. Donations can be made on PUDM's official website at www.pudm.org/donate.
The Day of Miracles will be held during PUDM's third annual Miracle Maker Week (Oct. 27-31) from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. each day. This weeklong event features interactive activities by the Bell Tower, including a chili cook-off, a "Take a Dance Break" tent, a human-sized megaphone where bystanders can shout their "Big Dreams," Minute to Win It games and a "pie-a-leader" event. Although the week's main goal is to recruit dancers for this year's dance marathon, the entire Lafayette community is invited to participate and help raise money For The Kids.
PUDM debuted in 2005 and is holding its 11th marathon this year, as there were two dance marathons in 2010. Last year's dance marathon raised over $1 million, making PUDM the youngest marathon in the nation to break the $1 million mark. Since 2005 PUDM has raised over $2.4 million. The money raised by PUDM supports many facets of Riley Hospital for Children, including Camp Riley, the Child Life Zone and the Riley Cancer Center.
