Hygiene kit drive to benefit local homeless
November 21, 2014
Until Dec. 3, faculty and staff are invited to donate unopened personal hygiene and other miscellaneous items for a new drive that will benefit residents of Greater Lafayette who are experiencing homelessness.
Collection bins for the drive are located outside the Starbucks in Purdue Memorial Union and in Krach Leadership Center, Room 336. Purdue Civic Engagement and Leadership Development (CELD) and the Purdue Pagan Academic Network (PAN) student organization are partnering with the Homelessness Prevention and Intervention Network (HPIN) to organize the drive.
Acceptable donations are bars of soap, bus tokens, condoms, cotton swabs, deodorant, feminine hygiene products, hats and gloves, socks, toothbrushes, tooth paste, travel-size conditioner, travel-size lotion, travel-size shampoo, wash cloths and wet wipes.
On Dec. 7, members of the student organization and the Purdue Street Outreach Team, made up of student volunteers, will collect the items, put together the kits and distribute them to those who are homeless.
Questions about the drive may be directed to Melissa Gruver, assistant dean of civic engagement and leadership development, at mgruver@purdue.edu, or Rebecca Busse, president of the Pagan Academic Network, at busser@purdue.edu.
