Honors College seeking applicants for 2015 Clinton Global Initiative University

October 20, 2014

As an institutional member of the Clinton Global Initiative University Network for the second year in a row, Purdue's Honors College again will host students at the Clinton Global Initiative University (CGI U) for 2015. The college is inviting applicants from across the University to participate in this social venture challenge, and a callout will be held Thursday (Oct. 23) for interested students.

Launched by former President Bill Clinton in 2007, CGI U hosts a meeting where students, youth organizations, experts and celebrities come together to discuss answers to the world's problems. CGI U 2015 will take place March 6-8 at the University of Miami in Florida and will be hosted by President Clinton and Chelsea Clinton.

Applicants prepare a "Commitment to Action" plan in one of CGI U's five focus areas: education, environment and climate change, peace and human rights, poverty alleviation, and public health. Commitments are initiatives designed by students that address pressing challenges on campus, in local communities or around the world. Applications will be accepted from any fully enrolled Purdue student and are not limited to honors students.

"This is a stellar opportunity for our students at Purdue to participate in an initiative bringing together youth leaders with experts from around the world," says Rhonda Phillips, dean of the Honors College and Purdue's CGI liaison.

Funding will be provided to cover travel expenses for those students selected to attend the conference. Additional funding from the Honors College also has been committed to help those students develop their solutions.

More information on the Clinton Global Initiative University, the upcoming conference and how to apply can be found at www.cgiu.org.

A callout for students interested in the conference will be 6-7 p.m. Thursday (Oct. 23) in Beering Hall, Room B268.
