October 22, 2014

Over 100 delegates from the United States, Canada and Europe will attend the 2014 Hispanic Linguistics Symposium on Nov. 13-16 at Purdue.

Known as the largest gathering in Hispanic and Lusophone linguistics in North America, the Hispanic Linguistics Symposium hosts a broad community of scholars who research and teach theoretical and applied linguistics related to the Spanish- and Portuguese-speaking worlds.

The four-day event will be held in various rooms throughout Purdue Memorial Union and Stewart Center. Students and faculty are invited to register and see other symposium information at www.conf.purdue.edu/landing_pages/hls. The cost is $150 or $210, respectively. In addition, attendees can purchase a ticket for Saturday night's banquet for $30.

Four renowned scholars in Hispanic linguistics highlight the event's sessions. The speakers are:

* José Camacho, professor of Spanish and linguistics at Rutgers University, and chair of the Department of Spanish and Portuguese.

* Laura Colantoni, professor of Spanish and linguistics at the University of Toronto.

* Anna Maria Escobar, associate professor of Spanish and linguistics at the University of Illinois.

* Juana Liceras, professor of Spanish and linguistics at the University of Ottawa, Canada.

The Hispanic Linguistics Symposium is co-sponsored by the College of Liberal Arts and the School of Languages and Cultures.
