Vice Provost for Faculty Affairs (Internal Search)
The Office of the Provost invites applications and nominations for the position of Vice Provost for Faculty Affairs (VPFA). This position is a 12-month, full-time administrative position reporting directly to the Provost.
The VPFA serves as the Office of the Provost liaison to Purdue’s Colleges and Schools for faculty matters and manages faculty processes and policies related to recruitment, retention, promotion and tenure, sabbatical leave, Voluntary Early Partial Retirement, Faculty Bridge Program and other matters pertaining to faculty. The VPFA responsibilities include providing guidance and leadership related to campus faculty policies and processes; creating budget models for faculty initiatives in consultation with Assistant Provost for Financial Affairs and overseeing allocations; managing financial commitments for faculty development efforts; overseeing the development and implementation of professional development for faculty and department heads; managing nominations and/or serving as point of contact for faculty awards and other recognition; collaborating with Vice Provost for Diversity and Inclusion for the recruitment, retention and success of Purdue URM and women faculty; working with Vice President for Ethics and Compliance, University legal counsel and Director of Employee Relations for faculty grievances and other matters related to faculty; representing the Office of the Provost on various committees as designated by the Provost for program reviews, visits from external reviewers, etc. The VPFA also serves as the Office of the Provost liaison to the University Senate Faculty Affairs Committee.
The successful candidate for Vice Provost for Faculty Affairs must: a) have a doctoral degree and hold the rank of full Professor; b) have a strong record of scholarly activities with successful teaching experience; c) have leadership skills and vision; d) have successful and collaborative administrative experience at a high level; e) possess the highest level of integrity; and f) display exceptional interpersonal and public communication skills.
The search advisory committee, chaired by Mark J.T. Smith, dean of the Graduate School, will begin reviewing applications on September 8, 2014, and is expected to make recommendations to the Provost in early October.
