Thousands enjoy Spring Fling; thanks extended to volunteers

June 2, 2014

Several thousand faculty, staff and retirees enjoyed Spring Fling, the annual employee appreciation event held this year on May 22.

Entertainment, including yard games and various activities, kept attendees engaged throughout the afternoon. Many enjoyed the fitness walk, the talent show, the vehicle show and bingo, among other events.

More than 920 participated in the fitness walk and received a medal featuring Felix Haas Hall.

The Ackerman Hills and Kampen golf courses hosted a total of 144 golfers.

Twenty-three vehicles were on display. This included cars, trucks, motorcycles and special interest vehicles. Winners will be posted online at www.purdue.edu/springfling.

The Office of University Sustainability reports that 97.1 percent of the waste generated during Spring Fling was diverted from landfills. That waste was recycled or sent to West Lafayette's wastewater treatment plant, where it was turned into electricity to help run that facility.
