Purdue Mortar Board selects fellowship recipients

April 25, 2014

The Barbara Cook Chapter of Mortar Board has awarded 10 fellowships to students seeking education beyond their undergraduate degree.

Mortar Board annually awards graduate fellowships to encourage Purdue students of high character and ability to pursue an advanced degree in graduate or professional studies. Recipients of the Mortar Board Graduate Fellowship are selected based on the three pillars of Mortar Board: scholarship, leadership and service.

The fellowship has been available to Purdue students for almost 70 years, and Mortar Board has awarded almost $1 million in fellowships to date. The sale of the Mortar Board calendar provides funds for the fellowships.

"Over 50 graduating seniors applied for the Mortar Board Graduate Fellowship this year, and my selection committee and I were blown away by the dedication and talent each applicant has put in to their scholarship, leadership, and service on Purdue's campus and in the community," says Alex Zawodni, Mortar Board vice president of allocations.

The 2014 recipients are:

* Erin Nicklow, College of Agriculture.

* Anneliese Rupp, College of Health and Human Sciences.

* Kristin Zabrecky, College of Science.
