Panel to discuss high-volume natural gas extraction

April 5, 2013

A variety of factors will receive attention Wednesday (April 10) in a panel event titled "Interdisciplinary Perspectives on High Volume Natural Gas Extraction."

The discussion, organized by Ecological Sciences and Engineering (ESE) graduate program and the Center for the Environment, is part of ESE's Keystone series. The event will be at 6-8 p.m. in Pfendler Hall, Deans Auditorium (Room 241). The Keystone series focuses on ecological sustainability with events designed to stimulate thought and discussion of controversial topics of global importance in an advocacy-free environment.

The panel will include representatives from industry, academia, and popular press who will speak on benefits and trade-offs of industry expansion, potential air and water quality impacts, boomtown dynamics on rural communities, national and international natural gas economics, and how the complexity of the subject is conveyed in the media. Panelist bios are at www.gradschool.purdue.edu/ese/keystone/panel.cfm.
