Krannert introducing Accounting Bridge Program this summer

April 18, 2013

A new summertime Accounting Bridge Program at the Krannert School of Management will provide graduate courses to fill in professional needs or partially meet admissions requirements for a master's degree program in accounting.

The Accounting Bridge Program is designed to complement U.S.-based Master of Science in Accounting programs. The program, offered through Krannert Executive Education Programs, is open to anyone -- Purdue students, Purdue employees, community members, students from elsewhere. Faculty members and academic advisors are encouraged to tell students about this option.

Krannert has begun this program to address a skills gap. For instance, a student not majoring in accounting who wants more skills or may be considering the CPA (certified public accountant) exam or a master's degree in accounting can use this program as a bridge to their destination -- whether the remaining degree work would be at Krannert or elsewhere. The same is true for international students, who often lack the courses offered in this bridge program.

The program partially fulfills prerequisites of Purdue's MS(A) curriculum. Those considering programs at other universities and/or CPA exams in other states should check on the applicability of these credits.

Participants can take any or all of the five courses. They will be offered one per week June 24-July 27 on an intensive schedule that allows them to yield three graduate-level credit hours each. The daily schedule, in general, is 7:45 a.m.-4:30 p.m. Monday-Saturday including breakfast and lunch, except no class after lunch Wednesday in most cases. A final exam is given on Saturday afternoon. The dates and courses are:

* June 24-29: Intermediate Financial Accounting I
* July 1-6: Intermediate Financial Accounting II (class until 4:30 July 3; no class July 4)
* July 8-13: Intermediate Managerial Accounting
* July 15-20: Tax Accounting
* July 22-27: Auditing

Courses will meet in the Krannert Executive Education Building, directly across State Street from Purdue Memorial Union.

The cost per three-credit course is $2,950. A person enrolling in all five courses will have a discounted cost of $13,950. The cost covers instruction, faculty access, course materials, and breakfast and lunch Monday-Saturday.

Optional housing packages are available.
