CSSAC awards grants for employees, dependents

The Clerical and Service Staff Advisory Committee will award 31 dependent grants totaling $23,500 and 10 employee grants for a total of $5,000, the group learned during its meeting June 11 at Indiana University-Purdue University Fort Wayne.
The grants help recipients attend classes at Purdue. The CSSAC grant fund is supported by a portion of revenues from vending machines on the West Lafayette campus, contributions, and sales of designated football and basketball tickets.
In other business, Sharon Williams, who serves on CSSAC's Purdue Employees Activity Program subcommittee, said seats are still available for the July 13 bus trip to Chicago for the Taste of Chicago food festival. Cost for the bus is $15 per person. Entrance into the Taste is free. Food and beverage tickets can be purchased at the event. CSSAC also is sponsoring Purdue Days at Indiana Beach, a resort and amusement resort park on Lake Shafer near Monticello, Ind. Open to all Purdue staff, faculty, retirees and their immediate families, the days are June 29-30 and July 27-28. Cost for prepaid tickets is $23/day, which includes unlimited soft drinks. Tickets at the door are $21/day, which does not include unlimited soft drinks. The days include rides from 11 a.m. to 11 p.m., swimming at Sandy Beach, the Splash Bash water play area, water slides, Action River and Big Flush.

Also on June 11, the group discussed changing its meeting time from 1 to 1:30 p.m. Members will vote at their July meeting on a motion by Lisa Gross to move the starting time.
