Boiler Kids Camp returning this summer

April 12, 2013

Boiler Kids Camp is back with its interactive, educational summer day camp for children ages 5-12. Presented by the Division of Recreational Sports, the camp will have six Monday-Friday sessions June 10-July 26. Registration is open.

Boiler Kids Camp operated successfully at the former Recreational Sports Center before the renovation and expansion project. With the completion of the renamed Córdova Recreational Sports Center, the camp can resume and offer additional activities including rock climbing and healthy cooking. Swimming and arts and crafts are among the popular components of the camp.

The camp provides a variety of activities geared toward a healthy lifestyle and lifelong learning. It groups children by their grade level in the coming fall to enable planning of appropriate activities. The camp is supervised by professional staff of DRS, and the counselors, most of whom are college-age students, have undergone extensive background checks and have earned certification in CPR/AED/first aid. A thorough guide for parents, available online, provides camp facts from activities and their goals to steps that help ensure safety and protection of children.

Campers register by the week and can register for as many weeks as desired. Parents do not need to be members of Rec Sports. The basic full-day rate per week is $110 for Rec Sports members, $120 for nonmembers.

The daily session is 8:30 a.m.-4 p.m. with drop-off at 7:30-8:15 a.m. and pickup at 4-4:30 p.m. For an additional fee, options for early care (6:45-7:15 a.m.) and after care (4:30-5:30 p.m.) are available. Other options include full or half day, lunch from home or a campus dining court for a fee, and a sibling discount for full-time registration of an additional child in the same week.

Camp weeks (no camp July 1-5) are:

* June 10-14.
* June 17-21.
* June 24-28.
* July 8-12.
* July 15-19.
* July 22-26.
