Author Ortiz Cofer to offer Women's History Month keynote

Award-winning author Judith Ortiz Cofer will present a keynote address and lead a discussion of her novel "The Line of the Sun" on March 28 as part of the Butler Center for Leadership Excellence's programming for Women's History Month.
Ortiz Cofer's talk, "A Love Story Beginning in Spanish: Women’s Empowerment through a Passion for Language and Writing," will be at 4:30 p.m. in the Lawson Computer Science Building, Room 1142. The free event is open to the public, and no registration is required.
The presentation will combine personal stories, poetry, and prose illustrating the empowering journey of a woman who declared herself a writer. A question-and-answer session will follow. The event is co-sponsored by the Latino Cultural Center.
Ortiz Cofer also will lead a discussion of her novel "The Line of the Sun" at noon in the Latino Cultural Center Lounge during a joint meeting of the Butler Center’s Book Club and La Polilla Café, the LCC’s bilingual book club. Women graduate students, staff, and faculty are invited to attend the free event, and a light lunch will be provided. Ortiz Cofer is an award-winning author, Georgia Writers Hall of Fame inductee, and Regents’ and the Franklin Professor of English and Creative Writing at the University of Georgia. She has written children's and young adult books, in addition to poetry collections and novels for adult audiences.
