Votes sought to propel Golden Girl into Miss America finals

Miss Indiana MerrieBeth Cox, who is also Purdue's Golden Girl, can be voted directly into the finals of the Miss America competition with the help of Boilermakers and other supporters.

Online voting for the America's Choice finalist has opened, and each of the 53 contestants has a video seeking support. Cox's video is at www.youtube.com/watch?v=DKGWFIQs_w8. The Miss America contestants compete for scholarships and must meet requirements for, among other things, character and ability to express a well-informed advocacy of a "platform issue," a cause for social and/or individual improvement.

Voting closes at 2:59 a.m. EST on Jan. 11 (11:59 p.m. PST on Jan. 10). There is a limit of one vote per person and Internet-accessible device per contestant, regardless of method of voting. Two methods of voting are available:

-- Go to www.missamerica.org/videocontest. This site also has voting terms and conditions.
-- Go to the "Video Contest" tab at www.facebook.com/missamericaorganization.

The finals of the 2013 Miss America Competition will be broadcast live Jan. 12 on ABC from Planet Hollywood Resort & Casino in Las Vegas. The winner of the America's Choice voting will be announced during the broadcast.
