Rec Sports Center to open today, but with one entrance

October 9, 2012

For the soft reopening today (Oct. 9) at the Recreational Sports Center, only the east entrance will be available as continuing work keeps the west entrance closed.

The building will have a daily schedule of 11 a.m. to 11 p.m. for some time, but the one-entrance situation applies for now only to Tuesday and Wednesday, says Howard Taylor, director of recreational sports.

The center, in the closing stages of a $98 million renovation and expansion, is to be dedicated Friday as the France A. Córdova Recreational Sports Center.

Taylor says that for these two days, persons who park west of the center in the area of the former baseball field will need to walk south to Third Street, east to Martin Jischke Drive and north to the center's east entrance.

Persons heading to the Turf Recreation Exercise Center (TREC) or Boilermaker Aquatic Center (AQUA) can go directly to the main entrances of those buildings.

The center will have signs posted and will issue updated entrance information in the coming days, Taylor says.
