Purdue United Way Campaign reaches midway point

October 16, 2012

With 25 days left in its 2012 campaign, Purdue United Way is looking to gain momentum in order to reach the goal of $745,000 by Nov. 9.

As of Friday (Oct. 12), the campaign has raised $568,597, or 76 percent of the goal.

Anne Washburn, Purdue United Way director, says she hopes to reach this year's goal by Nov.9, but donations will be accepted through the victory celebration Nov. 15.

The goal for the entire United Way of Greater Lafayette campaign, to which Purdue's campaign contributes, is $4.75 million, up from last year's $4.60 million due to increased community needs.

Vanguards are invited to participate in a donation matching initiative by the Eli Lilly Foundation. For every new donation by vanguards, the foundation will match dollar-for-dollar in contributions.  Vanguards are donors who contribute more than $1,000 annually. A portion of all vanguard gifts covers the administrative costs of the United Way campaign, so that all other donations go directly to the United Way partner agencies.

Faculty and staff can continue to contribute to Purdue's campaign by indicating an amount on a pledge card and choosing among several methods -- payroll deduction, one-time direct donation, or quarterly, monthly or one-time billing. Purdue employees and retiree donations may be designated to one or more of these agencies, or for a surrounding county.

Returned pledge cards are kept confidential, and team captains do not know the amount indicated. Cards should be returned to the team caption or sent via campus mail to the alumni center at DAUC by Nov. 9.

All faculty and staff who have not received a pledge card can pick one up at Dauch Alumni Center or print one from www.purdue.edu/unitedway.
