Purdue United Way benefit events planned

October 15, 2012

Purdue faculty and staff can support the Purdue United Way Campaign through a variety of fundraising activities.

* Supporters can have 10 percent of their meal cost at Texas Roadhouse donated to the Purdue United Way during the hours 4-10 p.m. Tuesday (Oct. 16). To contribute, diners must present the "Purdue Night" flier, available at www.purdue.edu/unitedway/events.html. Texas Roadhouse is located at 3651 E. State Road 38 in Lafayette. Dave Hardy, UW senior chair for Housing and Food Services and senior buyer in Food Stores, arranged the event.

* A United Way Day at the Buffalo Wild Wings on the Levee will be on Nov. 6. Diners who present the United Way flier, available at www.purdue.edu/unitedway/events.html, will have 15 percent of their meal cost donated to the cause. Kerry Ticen, customer service representative of materials management distribution, arranged the event.

* Twenty percent of orders from Puccini’s on the Levee at 4-10 p.m. Oct. 30 will be donated to the United Way. The offer applies to dine-in, carryout or delivery. Patrons may present the United Way flier, or mention the offer upon ordering. The flier is available at www.purdue.edu/unitedway/events.html. Ticen is also responsible for this event.

* Building Services is also working to benefit local United Way agencies by collecting nonfood items and nonperishable food items through Oct. 19. A collection box is located in the front office of Building Services and Grounds. Nonfood items will be donated to Lafayette Transitional Housing. A list of needed items can be found at http://lthc.net/items.htm.

* Energizing Indiana will donate $25 to United Way in Purdue's name for every home registered for a free home energy assessment. To qualify for an assessment, homes must be 10 years or older and must not have had a utility-sponsored assessment completed within the past three years.

Only single-family, duplex, triplex, quad or mobile homes are eligible. Electric service must also be provided through Vectren, Duke Energy, IMPA, NIPSCO, Indianapolis Power and Light or Indiana Michigan Power.

Energizing Indiana is an effort led by Indiana utility companies and the Indiana Office of Utility Consumer Counselor (OUCC) to promote energy efficiency and community savings.
