Purdue honored with 2012 Indiana school principals' award

October 5, 2012

Purdue has received the 2012 Dick Ramey Above and Beyond Award from the Indiana Association of School Principals (IASP), Department of Student Programs. The award is presented annually to those who have contributed to the success of Indiana Academic Competitions.

Indiana Academic Competitions is an interscholastic academic competition program for Indiana’s senior high, junior high/middle, and elementary school students. Competitions include Academic Super Bowl, Spell Bowl, Academic Decathlon, M.A.T.H. and Science Bowl.

Kyle Harrop, program director for the Department of Student Programs, thanked Purdue for its decade of support before  presenting the award to Suresh Garimella, associate vice president for engagement, at the Jr./Sr. Academic Coaches Conference on Tuesday (Oct. 2).

"Many see the Purdue logo on our awards, banners and programs, and recognize the significant financial contribution Purdue makes to keep Academic Competitions strong and to keep school costs low," Harrop says. "However, there is much more to our relationship with the Boilermakers than many have an opportunity to see. The time and effort contributed by the people at Purdue have helped us to make an impact on Indiana students."

Harrop went on to recognize staff within the Office of Engagement, Purdue Conference Division, Hall of Music Productions and ITaP, including Garimella; Julie Gibbs, administrative assistant; Kathy Walters, senior conference coordinator; and Skip Eads, technical coordinator/stage systems.

"Without exception, all of our dealings with Purdue truly have been above and beyond," Harrop says.
