No smoking signage being added; designated smoking area relocated

August 24, 2012

As a result of the Indiana No Smoking Law, which instituted a statewide indoor smoking ban effective July 1, 2012, there will be increased no smoking signage posted throughout campus. The process of installing signs at building entrances is ongoing and will continue over the course of the next few weeks.

Purdue's nonsmoking policy on the West Lafayette campus is already stricter than the new state law, so there will be no policy changes at this time. The current policy can be found at www.purdue.edu/policies/west-lafayette/wl-5.html.

As part of the nonsmoking policy, smoking is prohibited on the West Lafayette campus except in designated smoking areas. The designated smoking area between Stewart Center (STEW) and Purdue Memorial Union (PMU) was recently moved to a new location just south of Hicks Undergraduate Library (HIKS). Signs are posted in the old smoking area to direct people to the new location. A map of all available designated smoking areas can be found at www.purdue.edu/physicalfacilities/smokefree/map.htm

Questions regarding the no smoking policy implementation on campus may be directed to Carol Shelby at 49-47504 or ehps@purdue.edu.
