New session of Quit Smart beginning; other tobacco cessation options available

August 23, 2012

WorkLife Programs is offering a class designed to help people have success quitting smoking.

A new session of Quit Smart is available for registration on the West Lafayette campus. Beginning Sept. 4 and running through Oct. 18, the six-session class will meet from 3:30 to 5 p.m. at the State Street Office Facility (SSOF), 1601 W. State St. Amber Simons, worklife wellness specialist, will facilitate.

Quit Smart combines powerful treatments to help participants break free from tobacco. Participants attending this class will learn to ease off nicotine, use their mind to help, use a hypnosis CD and decide whether to use medication to break the habit.

Those looking to complete a tobacco cessation program to avoid the $500 additional premium in 2013 have several options. Classroom, phone and online tobacco cessation programs are available for all campuses.

To waive the $500 additional premium on all pay in 2013, tobacco users must complete an approved program between Sept. 1 and the last day of 2013 benefits open enrollment.

Registration for the phone and online programs is available in WorkLife Programs' online registration system. After participants register, they can check on the details anytime under "My Enrollment." Participants completing an online or phone program will need to turn in a certificate of completion to their campus wellness program.
