Purdue Today’s “Thumbs Up” series gives faculty and staff members the opportunity to recognize, thank and congratulate others for their outstanding service, support and performance across the Purdue system. This week’s “Thumbs Up” recipients are:

Ryan Tyson and Terry VanHoosier

Ryan and Terry (both Environmental Health and Safety) responded to unexpected water and condensation issues impacting the Shreve Hall basement that were discovered approximately one week after the Shreve power outage started for an electrical upgrade project. Upon discovery, Ryan, Terry and the team immediately arranged an emergency generator, space dehumidification and sanitation to begin restoring the impacted spaces to the required condition for student use. Work is still in progress. However, without the services of Ryan and Terry, we would have really been in a real pickle. You guys really saved the day. Many thanks for all your efforts and support. — Chris Siener (Real Estate)

Nicole Begin and all Purdue Grounds maintenance personnel

Over the years I’ve appreciated the care and attention that Purdue Grounds maintenance personnel invest in beautifying the West Lafayette location. Their hard work and dedication make this happen. Thank you to Nicole and all Grounds maintenance personnel for a job well done! — Lee Schweitzer (Agronomy)

Kim Haskett

Kim (Psychological Sciences) took on a very difficult role very suddenly and did so with grace. She always helps graduate students with a smile on her face and is so kind and helpful. — Shabeba Islam (Psychological Sciences)

Those who helped with SimpleMDG training

Hannah Fields, Terrin Schieler, Billy Spurlock (all Building Services), Caleb Wagner and Kyle Montemayor (both Operations and Maintenance) demonstrated a willingness to help their peers by performing a demo during training for the SimpleMDG request platform. They had a good attitude and were engaged and focused during training. — Aubrey Strasser (Administrative Operations)

Jerum Markley

We had a large shipment of chairs being delivered for our computer labs. We expected the delivery on May 22, but the driver came on May 21, which was the day of Spring Fling. The driver arrived later with the boxes of individual chairs shipped loose in the semi instead of on pallets. Jerum (Materials Management Distribution) stayed late and unloaded each one by hand — a huge amount of work. As always, Jerum was incredibly helpful both with this big task and with arranging delivery of the chairs for us the following week. — Theresa Morgan (IT End User Experience)
