It is hard to miss when a new multimillion-dollar building is being constructed at Purdue University. Whether it be a new building project or the renovation of an existing space, an entire team is responsible for the services required to successfully deliver the project. This falls to the Capital Asset Management department, which consists of project managers; construction managers; asset managers; estimators; and engineers in mechanical, electrical and civil.

The Capital Asset Management department is made up of more than 40 staff who develop the university’s capital project program. This work includes managing initial studies, securing appropriate project approvals, onboarding design consultants and general contractors, and delivering the project on time and under budget. The group is responsible for all capital construction projects at the West Lafayette, Indianapolis and Purdue Northwest locations.

“Our group focuses on delivering high-quality projects at the lowest possible cost and returning project savings for use on other university initiatives,” said Jim Keefe, senior director of Capital Asset Management.

Some featured projects currently under construction include large-scale projects like the Mitch Daniels School of Business building, South Hall residence hall, Nursing and Pharmacy Education building, Purdue Northwest Calumet residence hall, and Indianapolis Academic Success Building. All of these projects will enhance the student experience and transform campus landscapes. No matter the scope of the project, Keefe says his team is dedicated to their work.

“We are stewards of the university’s physical and financial resources,” Keefe said. “The university is committed to these building and infrastructure investments, and we want to do our best to bring these concepts and plans to fruition and meet the ever-changing needs of the university.”

Capital Asset Management is part of the Administrative Operations organization. The organization supports the university through safe, reliable and transformative services. Overseeing the capital project program and ensuring project completion is one of many ways the organization helps power Purdue.
