Appointments, honors and activities
Faculty and staff honors:
- The Council for Advancement and Support of Education offered four 2025 Circle of Excellence Awards to Purdue and its affiliates.
- The Purdue Institute for Cancer Research (PICR) was granted a silver award for its “From Start to Finishing Cancer” marketing campaign, which aimed to raise the profile of Purdue’s NCI-designated cancer center and highlight its research impact.
- The Purdue for Life Foundation won a silver award for its Spring 2024 Alumnus Magazine, which was presented online and featured creative photography, illustrations and integrated archival material.
- The Purdue for Life Foundation was also awarded gold for its designs in the Hall of Data Science and AI dedication. The judges noted its bold design, clear messages and branded experience.
- Purdue University Fort Wayne received a bronze award in the student recruitment publication category for its admissions viewbook. The viewbook was praised for its student focus, easy-to-digest language and innovative design.
- Purdue Health Equity Initiative has appointed Steven Steinhubl, MD, as its assistant director of faculty engagement as of July 1. Steinhubl is also a Vincent P. Reilly Professor of Biomedical Engineering in Purdue’s Weldon School of Biomedical Engineering. His research in the development of individualized digital biomarkers enabled by wearable sensor technologies will help him lead initiatives to better faculty development and foster interdisciplinary collaborations.
- Arielle Borovsky, professor of speech, language and hearing sciences, will serve a three-year term as president of the Cognitive Science Society executive committee, effective Aug. 1. The mission of the society is to promote cognitive science as a discipline and to foster scientific interchange among researchers in various areas of study, including artificial intelligence, linguistics, anthropology, psychology, neuroscience, philosophy and education.
- Rachel Tiefel, clinical assistant professor of nursing is the 2025 recipient of the American Association of Critical-Care Nurses’ (AACN) Novice Faculty Clinical Teaching Award. The award recognizes excellence in innovation and teaching in novice clinical faculty at AACN member schools.
