In today’s fast-paced, data-driven world, having accurate, reliable and actionable insights is essential for operational success. Within Administrative Operations (AO), the Analytics and Information Management (AIM) team plays a critical role in transforming raw data into meaningful intelligence that drives decision-making, optimizes efficiency and enhances service delivery across Purdue.

The AIM team is the primary source of data reporting and analysis within AO. By producing, validating and analyzing vast amounts of data, the team ensures AO departments have the insights needed to measure performance, improve processes and make informed decisions. The department’s work spans across multiple areas, including IT Liaison, working in close collaboration with Purdue IT, Data Governance, Integrated Analytics and Facilities Information Services, allowing for a comprehensive approach to data management. Their efforts have led to significant cost savings, enhanced transparency and increased operational efficiency throughout the university.

With AO managing a wide range of critical university functions — including facilities operations, capital asset management, procurement, space administration and public safety — the AIM team ensures that decisions are backed by data. The team works closely with leadership and individual departments to develop dashboards, campus maps, floorplans, key performance indicators and operational performance indicators that track progress, measure efficiency and identify areas for improvement.

“Data is more than just numbers — it tells a story,” says Amanda Carlson, senior director of AO Analytics and Information Management. “Our role is to make sure AO has access to the most accurate and relevant data so we can continue to improve operations and support the university’s mission.”

While the team oversees approximately 80 IT projects each year, recent initiatives have centered on optimizing space utilization programs and refining Environmental Health and Safety processes. One major enhancement involves integrating interactive maps into existing systems to improve accuracy, efficiency and overall user experience.

Through its commitment to data integrity and continuous improvement, the AIM team plays a vital role in streamlining operations and enhancing decision-making across Administrative Operations. By leveraging technology and data analytics, the team not only drives efficiency but also ensures Purdue’s infrastructure and services operate at peak performance. As AIM continues to refine existing systems and develop innovative solutions, its work remains integral to the university’s ability to adapt, evolve and excel in a rapidly changing environment.

Analytics and Information Management is part of the Administrative Operations organization, which supports the university by providing safe, reliable and transformative services. Providing accurate, reliable and data-driven insights to enhance efficiency and decision-making is just one of the ways the organization helps power Purdue.
