Purdue Books Initiative continues monthly publishing webinars for authors

The Purdue University Books Initiative continues its monthly webinar series featuring global publishing houses. Faculty and staff are invited to attend the next session from 3-4 p.m. on Feb. 27, with Charles Glaser and Zachary Romano from Springer. They will present an overview of the house and its business model, the why/what/how of scientific/technical book publishing, and details on open access publishing. A Q&A session will follow the brief presentation.

Glaser, editorial director for Springer’s Engineering, Materials Science and Applied Sciences division, began his career as a field-based sales representative for a textbook publisher before transitioning to acquisitions editor. He joined Springer in 2008 to lead the applied sciences team and is a senior member of IEEE.

Romano, senior publishing editor for Earth Sciences, Geography and Environment, brings more than a decade of experience commissioning books on geography (both physical and human), sustainability and sustainable development. His interests include books related to the U.N.’s Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), health geography, energy issues, GIS, and environmental contamination and remediation.

All webinars are accessible through a Teams link (Join the meeting now) and also on the Purdue Books Initiative website. Event recordings are also posted on the site.

Future publishing events are scheduled as follows:

CRC: March 12, 11 a.m.

Purdue Press: April 8, time TBD

Taylor & Francis: Set to be scheduled in May

Wiley: Set to be scheduled in September

The webinar series is designed to help new and prospective authors connect with reputable publishing houses and bring their projects from concept to ISBN in record time.

For information about the initiative, authors can visit the Purdue Books Initiative website or email Cristina Farmus, vice president for special projects.
