With the reinstatement of commercial air service at Purdue University Airport (LAF) in May 2024, who can catch a plane from West Lafayette, Indiana? Anyone.

The West Lafayette airport is open to the public, and that means faculty, staff and students can also utilize this local travel option — for business or personal use. Currently, 24 weekly round-trip flights to Chicago’s O’Hare International Airport (ORD) are being offered. This makes a quick weekend trip to Chicago possible without fighting traffic, or a traveler could choose one of more than 240 connecting destinations.

“We have the second-busiest airport in the state right in our backyard, and it’s a great convenience for Purdue employees and others in Greater Lafayette,” said Jessica Robertson, associate vice president of Purdue’s Auxiliary Services. “My advice is to check LAF for flights first to see if you can support our local airport and community while traveling.”

Purdue faculty and staff who are planning a business trip can use AAA Corporate Travel’s services at no cost to the traveler to book or plan arrangements.

“We partner with AAA Corporate Travel to support faculty and staff travel needs, and that can include just one amenity or several per trip,” Robertson said. “Simple and complex business travel can all be coordinated through AAA. An agent will work with the traveler to determine their needs and present them with options, which could include flying through the Purdue Airport, to accomplish their Purdue business goals.”

Flights arrive and depart from LAF seven days a week. For more information or to book a flight, visit the Purdue University Airport website.

Auxiliary Services is part of the Administrative Operations organization, which supports the university through safe, reliable and transformative services. Providing commercial air service to the Purdue and local community and promoting economic development are just a couple of the ways the organization continues to power Purdue.
