Applications for 3 faculty awards being accepted through Feb. 28

The excellence of Purdue University faculty is formally recognized by a wide range of internal awards. Faculty Affairs currently is accepting applications for three annual campuswide awards: Morrill Award, Trailblazer Award and Faculty Mentor Award.

The deadline to apply for all three awards is 5 p.m. Feb. 28.

Morrill Award

The Morrill Award is the highest honor that Purdue confers on a member of its faculty. It is intended for faculty at the rank of full professor who most strongly demonstrate the spirit of the land-grant university.

Recipients will exemplify the all-around teacher/scholar model: Their research has been recognized by their peers; their teaching stands as best in their fields; and their engagement has been recognized for its unique benefits to the community or faculty members’ disciplines.

With the Morrill Award, Purdue recognizes the faculty who best exhibit excellence in, and synergies among, all three dimensions of their profession — teaching, research and engagement. The Morrill Award comes with a $30,000 cash prize, and the Office of the Provost selects up to three recipients.

For details about the nomination requirements, along with how to submit a nomination, visit the Morrill Award webpage.

Trailblazer Award

The Trailblazer Award recognizes midcareer faculty members whose recent research, scholarship or creative work has made a significant impact and demonstrates excellence in the disciplines of humanities, social sciences or information sciences.

The annual award is open only to midcareer faculty in Purdue University Libraries and the colleges of Education, Liberal Arts, and Health and Human Sciences. Nominees’ work should be pioneering and innovative. The Trailblazer Award consists of a $2,000 monetary prize.

For more information about the award, eligibility, nomination instructions and the review process, visit the Trailblazer Award webpage.

Faculty Mentor Award

The Faculty Mentor Award was established in 2024 jointly by the Office of the Vice Provost for Faculty Affairs and the Susan Bulkeley Butler Center for Leadership Excellence. This award recognizes the impactful contributions of faculty mentors to the university and the importance of faculty mentoring in the professional experience and success of faculty.

This annual award is intended for faculty at the rank of associate or full professor who exemplify excellence in faculty mentoring. Recipients will have demonstrated commitment to active and responsive faculty mentorship and investment in the success and well-being of faculty at Purdue.

The Faculty Mentor Award consists of a monetary prize of $5,000 to support the faculty mentoring activities of the recipient, as well as a Distinguished Faculty Mentor Lecture hosted by the Butler Center in the subsequent fall semester.
