Purdue Memorial Union celebrates 100 years with a week of events

The Purdue Memorial Union is celebrating a century of tradition and community with a weeklong series of events, starting Sept. 9 and culminating in a grand finale on Sept. 17. This historic milestone will be commemorated with an array of activities, performances and special events open to the Purdue and Greater Lafayette communities.

Monday, Sept. 9 — PSUB Pack the Union

7-10 p.m.

*Student-only event

The Purdue Student Union Board (PSUB) kicks off the anniversary celebrations for Purdue students with an evening of live music, improv, crafts, trivia, bowling, gaming and the Boilermaker Xtra Special photo opportunity.

Tuesday, Sept. 10 — Purdue Food Co. Taste of the Union

2-5 p.m.

This delicious event celebrates the rich culinary history of the Union and will feature sampling stations of the offerings available in the Atlas Family Marketplace.

Wednesday, Sept. 11 — Dorothy Stratton Veteran and Military Success Center (VMSC) Military History Display and Dog Tag Open House

9 a.m.-4 p.m.

Visit the Union’s Great Hall and explore military history exhibits, learn about Purdue’s military heritage and meet with representatives from the VMSC. Veteran students and alumni are welcome to create their own dog tags as the VMSC debuts its new dog tag machine and collection.

Thursday, Sept. 12 — PMU 100th Birthday Bash

11 a.m.-3 p.m.

Celebrate with a range of fun activities on the Union’s Front Lawn, including inflatables, lawn games, Boilermaker Special rides and tasty birthday treats. Enjoy craft activities and more fun inside the Union in the Main Lounges, Room 118 and at the Hail Purdue Stage. Purdue Pete will be available for photos from 11 a.m.-1 p.m.

Thursday, Sept. 12 — PSUB Fall Concert

7-10 p.m.

Top off Thursday with an unforgettable night of live music on the PMU Front Lawn as we close down Mitch Daniels Boulevard!

Friday, Sept. 13 — PMU Centennial Night on the Terrace

6-8 p.m.

Dress in gold for an evening of live music featuring a local artist on the East Terrace. Light refreshments will be available, and additional food and drinks can be purchased from Walk-On’s Sports Bistreaux.

Tuesday, Sept. 17 — PMU Centennial Celebration: Inside the Capsule

12-1:30 p.m.

This pinnacle event in the Great Hall features keynote speeches, the unveiling of the 1924 time capsule, packing of a new 2024 capsule and a ceremonial bell ringing to mark the centennial. There will be a walking museum in the Main Lounges to explore, the Purdue Memorial Union’s 100th anniversary book will be debuted, and there will be light refreshments and giveaways in Room 118.
