Registration now open for Spring Fling activities, volunteer opportunities

Memorial Mall on the Purdue University campus.

Faculty, staff, graduate student staff and retirees can now register for Spring Fling activities and volunteer opportunities. The annual appreciation event is set to take place from 11:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. May 23 at and around Memorial Mall.

Staff appreciation postcards will not be mailed this year, and registration for all Spring Fling events will be available online only. Employees can enter drawings for door prizes by printing and completing the door prize entry form. Entry forms must be brought to Spring Fling and deposited at the information table by 2 p.m.

This year’s event marks the return of the classic vehicle show, set for 11:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Oval Drive. Faculty, staff and retirees can register to display their antique, classic and show cars; trucks; motorcycles; and other vehicles through May 17. All participants will receive an event dash plate, and special awards will be presented.

The golf outing on the Ackerman-Allen Course is $55 and includes 18 holes with a cart. To reserve a tee time, call 496-9313. Tee times will be assigned on a first-come, first-served basis beginning at 9:30 a.m. Purdue staff IDs will be checked as players check in.

Registration for the 3-mile fitness walk is open until 5 p.m. May 17 and is required for those wishing to participate and receive a medal. Participants can begin the walk between 11:30 a.m. and 2 p.m. and must be finished by 3:30 p.m.

Each year approximately 250 volunteers are needed to help make Spring Fling a success. The Spring Fling committee is inviting individuals to register as volunteers by 5 p.m. April 26. Those who sign up will receive a Spring Fling T-shirt and three additional entries for door prizes.

Volunteers will be assigned responsibilities like setting up and tearing down tables, chairs and tents; refilling food items; blowing up balloons; and assisting event attendees at the information table. Volunteers will be contacted ahead of the event with their time slot and task.

All other activities, including fitness classes, musical entertainment, yard games, disc golf and the blood drive, will not require registration.
