Undergraduate student pay minimum to increase to $9/hour this year and $10/hour in 2025, as proposed by Purdue Student Government

Nearly 10,000 undergraduate students receive hourly pay for their service across campus, playing a crucial role in Purdue’s persistent pursuit of perfection. The university places great importance on creating experiences for students that fully encompass experiential education and enrichment opportunities across the board.

As co-chairs of the Action Council on Student Housing and Well-Being, Patrick Wolfe, Purdue provost and executive vice president for academic affairs and diversity, and Chris Ruhl, chief financial officer and treasurer, on Wednesday (March 6) approved an increase to $9 per hour of the university’s minimum West Lafayette undergraduate pay rate. This increase is thanks to discussions over past months with student leaders and in recognition of market competitiveness.

As proposed by Purdue Student Government (PSG), this increase will take effect on July 1 and will be followed by an increase to $10 per hour on July 1, 2025 – representing a 38% increase overall from the minimum as it stands today. The vast majority of students are already receiving an amount above this new minimum. Further, as discussed with PSG, the minimum will be reevaluated regularly in future years based on market conditions.

Student well-being is a top priority for Purdue, and the university leadership team is proud to support and invest in all students to propel the university toward the ranks of the top five public land-grant institutions nationally.
