This week’s ‘Thumbs Up’ recipients

Purdue Today’s “Thumbs Up” series gives faculty and staff members the opportunity to recognize, thank and congratulate others for their outstanding service, support and performance across the Purdue system. This week’s “Thumbs Up” recipients are:

Brandon Case, Micah Peercy, Curt Jansen, Isaiah Rosinski and Jeff Rattray

Brandon and Micah (both IT Infrastructure Telecommunications Services), Curt (Purdue Systems Security), and Isaiah (IT Infrastructure Enterprise Resources) worked together to implement repairs and resolve a firewall issue. They spent hours on chat with Jeff (IT Research and Health Technology Services) and me — while Jeff was on vacation — to test and implement ideas and report back results. At the very beginning of the issue, and in parallel, Brandon reached out to Cisco and had a couple of Teams calls that did not render a solution. The College of Pharmacy IT appreciates the rapid response, diligence and collective knowledge that the individuals above invested into resolving our issue, and even when the manufacturer was puzzled on this issue, Purdue’s infrastructure, security and data experts were able to find a resolution. — William Tarrh (IT Research and Health Technology Services)

Rick Towers

A big thumbs-up to Rick (University Residences) and the rest of the student staff training committee: Tyler Ellenwood, Adam Iserman, Xander Carson-Hoyt, Alex McFarland, Coree Burton, Jen Bannon, Maggie Voisin, Priscilla Goodwine, Sammi Tayek, Tommy Fisher and Tisha Lynas (all University Residences). This wonderful crew of professionals put together and executed an impactful and thorough weeklong training for our resident assistants throughout University Residences. For these nearly 450 student leaders, both in West Lafayette and Indianapolis, you all created learning opportunities that have set up our resident assistants — and therefore all of our nearly 18,000 residents — for success in the coming academic year. — Kris Yambao (University Residences)

Brandon Ball and the Bull Gang

Brandon (Operations and Maintenance) and the Bull Gang work countless times throughout the day to move my area’s caging between buildings, often twice a day. There are times when schedules and locations change, and they are always so flexible and willing to accommodate those changes. We truly appreciate all that you guys do! Carly Brown, Mike Morton, Matt Bowers, Paula Memmer and Christina King

A big shoutout to Carly (Office of the Registrar), Mike (Honors College), Matt (Financial Aid), Paula (Study Abroad) and Christina (University Undergraduate Academic Advising) for helping make our winter session informational and Q&A session for academic advisors a success! Thank you for sharing your expertise, answering questions and helping our academic advisors better understand the resources and opportunities available to students during winter session. Volunteers for the Summer Undergraduate Research Symposium

With almost 500 student presentations from July 27-31, we had a wonderful turnout of 287 volunteer judges who provided important feedback to student presenters. With consistent support from the Purdue community, we can continue growing this event without losing the individualization of the presenter feedback process. Additionally, we had 20 day-of volunteers who helped ensure smooth conference operations. Thank you! — JJ Sadler (Undergraduate Research)

Billy Britton

I want to recognize and say thank you to Billy (Building Services) for his close observation when doing rounds in Tarkington Hall on Aug. 16. He noticed some issues with carpet in the public lounge area. Due to this close observation, we were able to contact the appropriate department to make the corrections necessary. Kudos for having a great eye for detail. — Melissa Paxton (Building Services)

Matt Ferrell

I would like to recognize Matt (Purdue Polytechnic Institute) for his initiative and dedication in supporting our academic labs. On his own accord, Matt coordinated and completed a trip from Columbus to South Bend to acquire valuable equipment for his site, including hydraulic fluid power trainers, an electric motor and a solar panel research device. He managed every aspect of the effort, from planning logistics and arranging rigging and loading to renting a box truck and transporting the equipment safely back to campus. Along the way, he even navigated severe weather conditions and unexpected challenges. Matt’s willingness to take ownership of the entire process helped secure resources that will benefit our students and instructional programs for years to come. His commitment, resourcefulness and focus on improving our labs are greatly appreciated. — Dustin Schultz (Engineering Technology)

Jessica Greenfield Hillesland

Jess (Interdisciplinary Research) was very responsive and helpful in responding to multiple questions that I had about a pilot program from the National Science Foundation. The timeliness of her responses was very much appreciated. — Lynne Taylor (Industrial and Molecular Pharmaceutics)

Gus Gomez

Over the past year, Gus (Purdue Global School of Business and Information Technology) has been flexible and stepped up to the plate to help develop several new courses, update existing courses and provide a positive environment for our students, without a single complaint. Building Services employees who helped clean Shreve Hall

Thank you to the crew that helped clean up a flood at the very end of the day at Shreve Hall. I received a phone call stating that the first floor of Shreve was flooded after a water pipe burst. Upon arrival, I got ahold of my crew chiefs, Julie Lane and Kennedi Thomas. We gathered some floor squeegees and mops and headed to Shreve. On our way, we asked for volunteers to stay over and help with the cleanup, and Martha Munoz, Marina Duran, Julian Gaeta, Kyle Laramore and David Ratliff all helped get the water off of the floor. Normally, the water cleanup would not have been an issue, but work that was happening in the building prevented us from using wet vacuums and made cleanup very challenging. Overall, I was very happy with how well we all worked as a team. Kudos to all of these staff members; I am very proud of all of you. You all deserve to be recognized for the work that we did. Thank you all again; without you, the cleanup would not have been possible. — Mike Royer (Building Services)
