Policy updates for January

Gateway to the Future arch at Purdue University.

The following new and revised systemwide policies and standards are in effect:

  • Research Security Program, Interim (I.A.6): This new policy follows federal guidance on establishing measures to protect intellectual property, which include training faculty and staff affiliated with university research projects on research security and prohibiting individuals on federally funded projects from participating in Foreign Talent Recruitment Programs that are deemed malign.
  • Conflicts of Commitment and Reportable Outside Activities (III.B.1) and Individual Financial Conflicts of Interest (III.B.2): Changes to these policies align with the above federal government requirements. Individuals are required to disclose their participation in Foreign Talent Recruitment Programs so the university can assess whether the program is malign.
  • Family and Medical Leave (S-26): This standard supersedes policy VI.E.1 on the same subject. The standard now allows spouses who both work for Purdue to each have their own 12 work weeks of protected leave for birth, adoption or foster care, rather than sharing the time. It also clarifies responsibilities for employees and Human Resources regarding coordination of FMLA with other leave laws, as may be necessary when an employee works in another state.

Visit the new and revised policies page on the University Policy Office website for a link to the full text of these systemwide policies and standards.

Note: Policies and standards do not apply to Purdue Global, as it maintains its own policies and standards.
