Xerox BoilerCopyMaker to host open house on new service for managing digital course materials
December 7, 2015
Xerox BoilerCopyMaker is inviting faculty and staff to an open house today (Dec. 7) to find out more about ProQuest SIPX, a new tool available to instructors for managing and sharing digital course materials. A webinar on ProQuest SIPX will also be available Friday (Dec. 11) for those unable to attend.
The open house is being held 1-2 p.m. today in Stewart Center, Room 214A. Members of the ProQuest SIPX and Xerox BoilerCopyMaker service teams will be on hand to answer questions, and light refreshments will be available.
SIPX will also host a webinar at 1 p.m. on Friday at http://bit.ly/1laabk0. The password is Boilermaker123.
Now available at Xerox BoilerCopyMaker, the ProQuest SIPX service offers instructors an easily sharable way to provide digital course readings quickly and compliantly. Course readings are generally formatted in a pristine publisher's copy PDF version.
ProQuest SIPX automatically recognizes library-subscribed and open content and eliminates redundant payments on copyright royalties and unnecessary cost in manually tracking down permissions. Using SIPX to provide course readings to students has helped instructors be able to provide students an average of 20 to 35 percent in savings to date. As partners, Purdue, Xerox, and ProQuest SIPX are providing more ways for Purdue Libraries content to bring value to instructors and students.
Instructors who use the service can share course readings with their students by sharing or pasting SIPX links in their preferred method, such as in a Blackboard course site, course packet, syllabi, instructors' website or wiki, or email to students.
ProQuest SIPX also provides aggregated data on student engagement and student ratings to give instructors insight into whether assigned readings are helpful to students. In addition, Purdue University Libraries will use the data to get better awareness into what subscriptions could be purchased to help further reduce students' costs.
To use ProQuest SIPX, instructors should submit their syllabus at Xerox BoilerCopyMaker (Purdue Memorial Union, Room 186) or via email to PurdueBLCMPrintDigital@xerox.com. The Xerox team will return a SIPX link to the faculty member with their reading requests. For more information, call 765-496-3888 or visit the ProQuest SIPX page on the Xerox website.
