Butler Center to honor four distinguished alumnae at annual event

Four Purdue alumnae will be recognized as 2015 Distinguished Women Scholars for their exceptional contributions to their fields and impressive leadership.
The Office of the Provost and the Butler Center for Leadership Excellence will honor the alumnae during an award ceremony at 1:30 p.m. March 9 in Purdue Memorial Union, Anniversary Drawing Room. This event is free and open to the public.
The 2015 awardees:
* April C. Mason graduated from Purdue in 1984 with a PhD in foods and nutrition. She is the provost and senior vice president at Kansas State University and a professor in the Department of Human Nutrition.
* Renu Khator earned a PhD in political science/public administration in 1985 and a master’s degree in political science in 1975, also from Purdue. She is the chancellor and president of the University of Houston in Texas.
* Lynn A. Bryan earned a PhD in science education in 1997. She serves as a professor of science education with a joint appointment in the Departments of Physics and Curriculum and Instruction and is the director of Purdue’s Center for Advancing the Teaching and Learning of STEM (CATALYST).
* JoAnn Browning graduated in 1998 with a PhD in civil engineering. She is the dean of the College of Engineering and the David and Jennifer Spencer Distinguished Chair for the Dean of Engineering at the University of Texas at San Antonio.
According to Alyssa Panitch, vice provost for faculty affairs, "These four women who epitomize the mission of the Butler Center serve as an inspiration to our campus community, and we are proud to celebrate their success."
Patrice Buzzanell, newly appointed Susan Bulkeley Butler Chair for Leadership Excellence, says, "The 2015 Distinguished Women Scholars are incredibly inspiring role models for women and men in academe. We are proud and honored to showcase their careers and look forward to their insights on how to integrate discovery, learning and engagement to accomplish such impressive scholarly impact."
