Active Learning Center activities, tree removals leading up to demolition

Activity near the future site of the Active Learning Center will continue to increase as the demolition of the Engineering Administration Building and the Heating and Power Plant North approaches.
Construction traffic is expected to further increase along the previously published route, and some existing trees and landscaping south of Potter Engineering Center will be removed this week in order to facilitate both demolition and future construction of the Active Learning Center.
A selection of trees in the area has already been relocated. Others will be preserved in place, and, as always, the Grounds Department and campus landscape architects will ensure that more trees are planted on campus each year than are removed. The removal of the trees and associated reinvestment in campus tree planting will be managed in a manner consistent with the campus tree care plan and the University’s status as a Tree Campus USA.
A study is underway to determine how best to redevelop the area in a way that will complement the new surroundings and programs at adjacent facilities once the construction of the Active Learning Center is complete.
Building demolition is expected to begin in August after additional fencing and site preparation in the area.
When possible, the campus community is urged avoid the area near the Active Learning Center site and associated construction traffic routes.
