Tree outside Stanley Coulter Hall removed for safety

July 26, 2012

A decaying European beech tree next to Stanley Coulter Hall was removed Tuesday (July 24) to help ensure the safety of members of the campus community.

The tree, which recently lost multiple large branches, will be replaced this fall during the normal planting season.

“The tree was unhealthy, and the falling branches made it a safety concern,” said Gary Evans, director of Grounds. “We value the welfare of the students and staff on campus, and the tree posed a threat to pedestrians in the area.”

The arborists in the Grounds Department utilize a carefully developed tree care plan to guide the management of trees on the West Lafayette campus. The campus tree care plan is implemented throughout the year as trees are assessed, cared for, planted and removed, as appropriate.

Questions on the tree removal may be directed to the Grounds Department at 49-43087.
