Purdue partners with community-based Read to Succeed program

A partnership between Purdue and Read to Succeed, a volunteer program of Greater Lafayette Commerce and the United Way, is giving Boilermakers the opportunity to give back.

Read to Succeed aims to assist the local schools' efforts to have all students reading at grade level by grade three. Purdue faculty, staff and students can donate one hour of time per week toward the program.

The rewards are mutual. One recent volunteer, Kerry Blankenship, a communication specialist in Purdue Human Resources, shared her insight.

"By participating in Read to Succeed, I had the privilege of going into a classroom every week and knowing that I was making a difference there," she says. "I can only guess at what it meant to the students, but it was a thoroughly rewarding experience for me."
