In the English Landscape Study Abroad – Week 1

Students pose for a group photo on stone steps in Parade Park in Bath, with historic buildings and a statue in the background.

During the first week of the In the English Landscape study abroad program, students have immersed themselves in the rich history and beauty of England’s gardens, abbeys, and estates surrounding their home base in Devizes. Each visit has provided new insight into the layered cultural and environmental influences that define the English landscape. Students have explored the historic city of Bath, where they gathered for a group photo at Parade Park and sketched the iconic Royal Crescent, capturing its sweeping architectural form.

They also visited Avebury Henge, the largest prehistoric stone circle in Europe, where they paused for a group photo among the ancient stones. These experiences have offered a powerful connection to both designed and prehistoric landscapes.

Despite a record early-season heatwave, the group has remained engaged and enthusiastic, making the most of these unique opportunities. As the program continues, they look forward to building on these experiences with further exploration of England’s remarkable landscapes.
