Conservation Agriculture: Integrating Ecology, Farming, and Design

Brian Schundler, an Associate at Nelson Byrd Woltz Landscape Architects (NBW), will discuss the Conservation Agriculture Studio (ConAg), a specialized practice within NBW that applies contemporary design principles and restoration ecology to working farms. ConAg aims to enhance agricultural production, biodiversity, and beauty by integrating ecological and cultural systems. This presentation will provide an overview of the ConAg methodology and its evolution, highlighting its approach to balancing productivity with ecological stewardship. Using recent case studies, we will illustrate how this approach fosters sustainable land management while enhancing both environmental and aesthetic value.
