Cale Bigelow, Jada Powlen and Lee Miller attended the 2024 Golf Course Superintendent’s Association of America (GCSAA) annual meeting in Phoenix, AZ. Cale presented the topic “Nutrient update from turfgrasses: How much do you lose with clipping collection?” Dr. Lee Miller from the Purdue Botany and Plant Pathology Department presented on the topic of “What do you do when your fungicide gets wet?”.

Purdue sent 16 students (4 teams) to participate in the 30th annual GCSAA Collegiate quiz bowl. Similar to the Sports Field Managers Turf Quiz bowl the students are tested on their turf/weed/seed identification skills, practical math for the golf industry and golf operations business management related questions. The competition had nearly 300 students and consisted of 68 teams from turf programs across North America. The team of Eli Ziliak, Brody Piel, Hayden Flick, and Jacob Winger won 1st place in the event. Purdue students have won this annual quiz bowl competition three out of the last four years.
