Community Farms: Designing for Healthy Foods, Inclusivity, and Engagement

While it’s not often that we have the opportunity to design a farm from scratch, diverse stakeholder collectives are increasingly focused on developing farms that meet the needs and aspirations of their communities. This budding interest among communities of all types offers some unusual design-build-grow opportunities.

We’ll do a quick foray into the different types of community farms that are popping up before examining how farm design processes can accommodate different goals, ecosystems, financial resources, and community capacities–while keeping healthy foods, inclusivity, and engagement as guiding principles.
