Decoding Human Behavior – AI and ML systems in the built environment

This presentation will showcase and discuss research progress of a series of artificial intelligence and machine learning developments that can be used to observe, analyze, and simulate the built environment in its various forms. Beginning with camera vision technologies that can automate identity and location tracking which have contributed to developing a database of cross-cultural human behaviors in a variety of environments and contexts, this work seeks to develop digital twin models that can inform the future of public spaces that people use in their everyday lives. Research into the complex simulation of environmental, socio-cultural, and individual human behaviors will be demonstrated along with implications and concerns over use of AI in these contexts. This work is intended to influence spatial programming decisions for designers, planners, developers, and the general public, towards shaping spaces for human physical, emotional, and cultural health.
