The White Lodging–J.W. Marriott, Jr. School of Hospitality and Tourism Management at Purdue University is proud to announce the appointment of Dr. Larissa Adamiec as clinical associate professor.
Adamiec brings to Purdue a distinguished career in financial markets and higher education. Her professional background spans equity research, investment products, and financial education, with accomplishments ranging from founding Stuart Investments, an equity fund, to teaching at the University of Chicago Booth School of Business.
She has held key roles at leading financial institutions, including the Federal Home Loan Bank of Chicago, where she developed over-the-counter fixed income products; FactSet, where she modeled mortgage-backed securities; and PEAK6, where she created educational courses in ETFs and options. Her extensive expertise has been built on a strong academic foundation, holding both a master’s degree in financial engineering from the Stuart Graduate School of Business and a PhD in management science with a concentration in finance from Illinois Institute of Technology. Her dissertation centered on using a Markov model to create market regimes based on carry trade returns.
Her research interests include currency pricing, ETFs, VIX, asset pricing, behavioral finance, and financial education, with a particular emphasis on experiential learning. She has developed initiatives that connect the financial industry with academia, such as the Implied Volatility Competition sponsored by TD Ameritrade and management of the CFA Research Team, which she successfully coached to a first-place finish in the Indianapolis CFA Research Competition. She also serves on the Board of Stuart Investments.
This semester, Adamiec is teaching CSR 484: Consumer Investments and Savings Decisions, CSR 486: Retirement Planning and Employee Benefits, and CSR 399: Tax & Estate Financial Planning, where she brings her passion for mentoring students and helping them prepare for impactful careers.
When asked what excites her most about being a Boilermaker, Adamiec points to the students, “helping students further their career and discover what they love,” she said.
With her extensive industry background, innovative teaching approach, and dedication to student success, Dr. Adamiec is a valuable addition to Purdue HTM’s faculty and its mission to educate the next generation of leaders in hospitality, retail, financial counseling, and sales.
