Krivokapic Shines on International Stage Representing Montenegro at Davis Cup

WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. – Aleksa Krivokapic, a junior majoring in Financial Counseling and Planning at Purdue’s White Lodging-J.W. Marriott, Jr. School of Hospitality and Tourism Management, recently showcased his talent on the global stage at the Davis Cup, representing his home country of Montenegro. Krivokapic faced off against some of the world’s best tennis players, further cementing his position as one of Purdue’s rising stars in athletics.

The Davis Cup, often called the “World Cup of Tennis,” is the premier international team event in men’s tennis. Organized by the International Tennis Federation (ITF), it pits teams from around the world against each other in a battle for national pride. The matches include singles and doubles events, and the tournament has a storied history dating back to its inception in 1900.

Krivokapic’s Davis Cup journey unfolded in February 2025 when Montenegro took on powerhouse teams in World Group II. One of Krivokapic’s standout moments came during his singles match against China’s Zhizhen Zhang, currently ranked #50 in the world. Despite falling 4-6, 4-6 to Zhang, Krivokapic’s performance demonstrated his grit and determination. Playing against a top-ranked player on an international stage is no small feat, and his ability to keep the sets competitive is a testament to his skill and composure.

In doubles, Krivokapic partnered with teammate Petar Jovanovic, pushing China to the brink together. The pair forced a tiebreaker in the second set before narrowly losing 4-6, 6-7. Their resilience and teamwork captured the attention of spectators and highlighted Montenegro’s determination to compete at the highest level.

Krivokapic’s journey to the Davis Cup follows an impressive collegiate tennis season. In the fall of 2024, he claimed the Big Ten Men’s Singles Championship, a remarkable achievement that brought pride to Purdue and showcased his talent within collegiate tennis. His success on the court at Purdue and internationally reflects his commitment to excellence in athletics and academics.

Krivokapic shared that representing his country at the Davis Cup was a significant milestone in his athletic career.

Krivokapic’s achievements highlight his ability to excel both in the classroom and on the court. His dedication to managing the demands of academics and international competition reflects a strong work ethic and exceptional focus.
