Duties & Responsibilities of the IBSC Advisory Committee

The Interdisciplinary Biomedical Sciences Graduate Program Advisory Committee shall oversee all activities related to the education process of students in the track. The responsibilities of the committee are (but not limited to):

  • Establishment of requirements/criteria for admission of students into the Program
  • Serve as the “admissions committee” for the Program
  • Establish the curriculum for the Program, monitor its success and implement changes
  • Develop guidelines, by-laws, and requirements for the training process within the framework of the guidelines established by the Graduate School
  • Establish eligibility requirements for faculty membership and participation in the Program, as well as monitor the success and quality of that participation
  • Develop procedures for selecting and screening faculty for the Program. Serve as the faculty selection committee. (Faculty appointment to the program will be made jointly by the SVM Dean or his/her designee) and the Head of the Weldon School of Biomedical Engineering.
  • Conduct a periodic review of all requirements/guidelines to ascertain that the educational process meets all of the guidelines of the Graduate School and the educational needs of the students

Membership of committee:

  • The members of the IBSC advisory committee will be appointed jointly by the SVM Dean (or his/her designee) with input from heads of the SVM Departments and head of the Weldon School of Biomedical Engineering
  • Members will serve a three-year term and may serve consecutive terms if appointed

Duties and Responsibilities of the Chairperson of the IBSC Advisory Committee

  • The chairperson of the IBSC Advisory Committee shall report jointly to the SVM Associate Dean for Research and the Head, Weldon School of Biomedical Engineering
  • The chairperson of IBSC Advisory Committee shall serve as an ex officio (voting) member of the Executive Committee (Oversight Committee) of the SVM Interdisciplinary Graduate Program
  • The chairperson shall preside over all meetings of the committee. In the absence of the chairperson, his/her appointee shall preside.
  • The quorum shall be formed by a minimum of 50% of the committee members
