Hear from Laura Crabtree, one of our Immigration Counselors as she provided information about the requirements, restrictions, and process that pertain to the international student population being employed off campus—Curricular Practical Training (CPT), Optional Practical Training (OPT), Academic Training (AT), etc. This is a great refresher as students begin submitting their requests now for employment after graduation or summer internships.

Hear from Laura Crabtree (Immigration Counselor) discuss the end of semester reminders for Fall 2023. This includes information on program extensions, CPT, OPT, Change of Education Level, Resuming on campus studies, and academic training.

Apoorva Menon (MS, LMFT), a Staff Therapist from CAPS joins us to talk about mental health & international students. Some of the topic discussed include: residual responses to COVID- 19, mental health problems, recognizing a student who is struggling, talking to a student, and information about CAPS services.

Student Ambassadors, part of the International Student Services Ambassador Program (ISSAP), present on various topics surrounding students position in the global context, challenges they have, and suggest ways to support them.

This Coffee Conversation is on Internship Connections. We had representatives from Center for Career Opportunities (CCO), Office of Professional Practice (OPP), and International Student Services (ISS) to discuss internship opportunities and connecting with community.

November 2022: Southwest Asia North Africa Culture

Southwest Asia (Middle East) & North Africa Culture presentation took place on November 1 at 9:00 am. This was a continuation from our previous culture series. This focuses on Southwest Asia & North Africa (SWANA). The countries selected are based on our international student population from the countries and the subregions of the SWANA they represent, such as the Gulf, the Levant, and North Africa. The countries we have student representatives from: Egypt, Iran, Jordan, Saudi Arabia, and information about the SWANA Student Union at Purdue.

October 2022: Mental Health and International Students

Dr. Margot Schuerman from Counseling and Psychological Services (CAPS) and Gracie Heeb from ISS will present on pressing mental health issues, warning signs, and resources on campus for international students. This presentation takes place during Mental Illness Awareness Week.

September 2022: Cultural Adaptation

Dr. Theresa Nutten from Counseling and Psychological Services (CAPS) present on cultural shock and adaptation of international students in the U.S and at Purdue University.

July 2022: Basic Immigration

Lauren Lacy (Immigration Counselor) will provide an introduction to our office, overview of immigration documents, regulations & policies, etc. Even if you have attended a session like this before, it is a great refresher to get the most up-to-date information.
