two pathways

LOCATION: WEST LAFAYETTE AND INDIANAPOLIS

INDIANAPOLIS 2+2: As a direct-admit IE student, you will spend your first two years in Indianapolis, where you’ll gain hands-on experience and real-world application through industry-sponsored projects and IE courses from day one. You’ll enjoy a smaller cohort and urban setting before transitioning to West Lafayette for your final two years

WEST LAFAYETTE: In West Lafayette, you’ll follow Purdue’s traditional four-year campus experience as a First-Year Engineering student.
You’ll build a strong academic foundation while exploring how different engineering fields approach real-world problems—before starting your focused industrial engineering courses in your second year.

Industrial engineers design, analyze, and manage complex human-integrated systems such as manufacturing systems, supply chain networks, and service systems. These systems typically consist of a combination of people, information, material and equipment. In such systems, industrial engineers determine how to optimize the system for maximum efficiency, effectiveness, safety, or other objectives of interest to the system’s stakeholders.
